What is CSC?
CSC stands for Card Security Code, which is a 3 or 4 digit number printed on the back or front of a credit card.
CSC is known by different names. For example, on Visa it is called CVV2 (Card Verification Code), while on Mastercard it is called CVC2 (Card Validation Code). American Express calls it CID (Card Indentification Code).
On most cards, the CSC is printed on the back of the card, usually after the card number. For American Express, the 4 digit number is printed on the front of the card.
The CSC is an authentication scheme to prevent fraud for transaction. If a credit card number is provided with an unmatched CSC, the transaction will not be approved.
Where can I find my CSC?
The CSC number is typically printed on the signature panel on the back of the card for MasterCard, VISA and Bankcard credit cards (as illustrated below).
